CAMP ONE: Skills for Parish Worship for Commissions & Liturgical Committees

This is a time of great change for the Church in the United States. Many parishes are clustering and/or merging.

New immigrants are arriving daily to cities and states in our nation. Parishioners are becoming more

active in ministries and outreach. Priests are being called to pastor more than one parish.

The challenge for Worship Commissions and Liturgical Committees becomes how to ensure that our

Eucharistic celebrations, the center of our life as the People of God, continue to nourish, form and help parishioners

to grow in their relationship with God. Inherent in this challenge are the following skills that need to be

developed in the members of the Worship Commission and Liturgical Committee:

  • What is our responsibility as a Worship Commission/Liturgical Committee?

How do we:

  • Prepare liturgical celebrations that welcome everyone and form the identity of our parishioners?

  • Collaborate?

  • Resolve Conflicts?

  • Pray together?

  • Discern growth in the parish prayer life?

  • What do we need to study?

Our time together in this Camp One experience will hopefully provide participants with skills the need to

become viable members of the parish Worship Commission/Liturgical Committee.

CAMP TWO: Skills for Music Ministers

Camp Two will focus on a combination of theological and musical input for parish music ministers. It will provide something for everyone involved in parish music ministry.

Presentations will unpack the liturgical books, explore musical paradigms and give practical skills for developing better

choirs, technological and keyboard skills.

Together the camp participants will explore:

What is:

  • The quality of music we wish to share with the Body of Christ through instrument, voice and participation in the liturgical life of he parish?

  • The church calling us to become as pastoral music ministers?

How do we:

  • Integrate the documents and the different music paradigms in the church?

  • Grow in our knowledge of the needs of the people we serve?

  • Use the choir in our liturgical expressions?

  • Improve the quality of choirs, the depth of our repertoire and increase our musical skills?

  • Use technology to our advantage?

  • Become better people of prayer?

What do we:

  • Need to learn to become the best we can be in our service as musicians in the church?
